Legal
Terms of use.
Last updated: April 28, 2026
1. About these terms
These Terms of Use form a legally binding agreement between you and St Andrews Tickets. By creating an account or using the Platform, you accept these Terms in full. If you do not accept them, do not use the Platform.
We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the Platform after changes are posted means you accept the updated Terms.
2. What the Platform does
St Andrews Tickets is a peer-to-peer marketplace exclusively for verified students of the University of St Andrews. The Platform facilitates the listing, sale, and purchase of event tickets between students.
We are NOT the seller of any ticket. We are NOT a party to the contract of sale between you and another User. The Platform’s role is limited to:
- Verifying that Users have valid @st-andrews.ac.uk email addresses
- Hosting listings
- Processing payments via Stripe (a third-party payment processor)
- Holding funds in escrow until the buyer confirms receipt
- Mediating disputes when they arise
The Platform does NOT inspect or guarantee the validity, authenticity, or transferability of any ticket. The Platform does not verify whether a ticket will be honored at the venue. The Platform does not take ownership of any ticket at any point.
3. Eligibility and accounts
You may create an account only if:
- You are a current student of the University of St Andrews with a valid @st-andrews.ac.uk email
- You are at least 18 years old (or 16–18 with parental consent)
- You are not impersonating another person
You are responsible for all activity on your account. If you suspect unauthorized access, notify us immediately.
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.
4. Listings — seller obligations
By creating a listing, you (“the Seller”) warrant that:
- You are the lawful owner of the ticket
- The ticket has not been used or sold to anyone else
- The ticket is for the event described
- You have the right to transfer the ticket
- All listing information is accurate
- You will deliver the ticket in a timely manner after payment
If a listing includes a ticket file, you warrant that the file is authentic and represents a genuine ticket.
You agree NOT to:
- List the same ticket on multiple platforms simultaneously
- List counterfeit or fraudulent tickets
- List tickets that have already been used
- List tickets you do not own
5. Purchases — buyer obligations
By purchasing a ticket, you (“the Buyer”) agree that:
- You are buying from another individual student
- The Platform does NOT guarantee the ticket will be honored at the venue
- You will confirm receipt of the ticket through the Platform within 24 hours (for verified file-based tickets) or 48 hours (for app-transfer, physical, or email tickets) of purchase
Disputes must be raised through the Platform’s dispute system. Initiating a chargeback without first using the dispute system may result in account suspension.
6. Fees and payments
A 10% service fee is added to the seller’s asking price at checkout. This fee covers payment processing fees (Stripe), platform operations, and dispute mediation.
Example: A seller lists a ticket for £30. The buyer pays £33.00 at checkout. The seller receives £30.00. The Platform retains £3.00, of which a portion is paid to Stripe.
Payments are processed by Stripe. By using the Platform, you also agree to Stripe’s Connected Account Agreement. The Platform does not store payment card details.
Sellers are responsible for any tax obligations related to their earnings.
7. Buyer protection
Funds are held in escrow by Stripe and not immediately released to the Seller. Funds are released when:
- The Buyer confirms receipt through the Platform, or
- Automatically after 24 hours (for ticket files that have been accessed) or 48 hours (for other ticket types) if no dispute is raised
If the Buyer never accesses a digital ticket file within 24 hours, funds are automatically refunded.
If the Buyer raises a dispute within the protection window, funds are frozen pending resolution. The Platform reviews evidence and makes a reasonable, good-faith determination.
8. Refunds
Refunds are issued by the Platform when:
- The Seller does not deliver the ticket
- The Buyer raises a dispute and the Platform determines in their favor
- Both parties agree to cancel
- The Buyer has not accessed a digital ticket file within 24 hours
Once funds are released to the Seller, refunds are no longer guaranteed by the Platform.
The 10% service fee is non-refundable except in cases where the Platform determines the Seller acted fraudulently.
9. Disputes between users
Disputes between buyers and sellers are their responsibility to resolve directly. The Platform is not liable for transaction outcomes once the automated refund window has closed. If you cannot resolve a dispute with the other party, your recourse is through your payment provider or applicable consumer law — not the Platform.
10. Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Platform is provided “as is” without warranties of any kind. The Platform is NOT liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Platform.
The Platform’s total liability to any User in any 12-month period is limited to the total fees that User has paid to the Platform during that period.
Nothing in these Terms limits liability for fraud, gross negligence, or any liability that cannot legally be limited under UK law.
11. Prohibited uses
You agree not to:
- Use the Platform for any illegal purpose
- Resell tickets to events where resale is prohibited (e.g., football matches under the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994)
- Sell tickets above face value where prohibited by event terms
- Harass other Users
- Attempt to circumvent the Platform’s payment system
- Create multiple accounts to evade suspension
12. Privacy
The Platform’s Privacy Policy explains what personal data we collect and your rights under UK GDPR. By using the Platform, you accept the Privacy Policy.
13. Termination
You may close your account at any time by contacting us. We may terminate or suspend your account without notice for breach of these Terms.
14. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of Scotland. Any dispute shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Scottish courts.
